About Resource IO

Resource IO provides software tools that remotely monitor and manage high-value industrial equipment resources such as generators, compressors, factory equipment, and construction equipment.

Resource IO emerged when CTO Karl Dittrich, then working on clinical software for a company called ResultGroup, received a request to help ensure high quality and continuous power service for the 2008 PGA Championship in Detroit. Karl was tasked with providing a monitoring system for the power generators for the PGA tournament, where they needed an efficient way to remotely monitor detailed generator operating status. No one wants a blank TV when they’re watching world-class sports, and that’s exactly what can happen with power generators go down on the job!

To solve this problem, Karl turned his attention to designing and managing the development of the system that became RIO Sentry. Able to monitor more than 70 different status parameters from any computer with an Internet connection, RIO Sentry debuted at the PGA Tour and performed flawlessly. During the tour, RIO Sentry was used to carefully monitor the health of their generators and pre-emptively address abnormalities before the issues became problems and generators failed.

By the time the monitoring system for the PGA Tour was completed, Karl had found a new partner, Jim Barger, to help turn RIO Sentry into a robust product and make it commercially available. The pair realized the RIO Sentry solution would fulfill unmet needs for not only power generator monitoring, but for other industrial equipment such as compressors, factory systems, and construction equipment. They also discovered the need for a complete RIO software suite that includes functionality such as scheduling and resource management in addition to equipment monitoring.
